What Happens in a Reiki Session?
The purpose of this article is to lift the veil of privacy around what to expect in a Reiki healing. This was 100% my main hesitation in booking my first session. What if it was way more “out there” than I was prepared for? Would it be worth my time, money, or getting my hopes up? I aim now to share step-by-step what it will look like to book a Reiki session with us to clear up some of those questions.
After booking on the offerings section of the website, you will receive a follow-up email to coordinate a time for the session. Weekdays, weekends, and evenings are all available times, as accessibility is one of our core values.
There is also a sliding scale available for all single sessions; so you can determine how much you’re able to pay for the session within the scale.
You are welcome to ask any questions before the session. For example, depending on what you’re currently seeking treatment for, we can discuss different healing options.
For example, rather than booking one long session, it may be more beneficial for you to receive two shorter treatments.
Once a date and time are selected, you will receive recommendations for preparing your own space, since all sessions are held virtually. This involves finding a private location (indoors or out), a comfortable place to lay down, and turning on some music from our Spotify Playlist. If you don’t have Spotify, there are plenty of other options we can discuss.
We will connect on Zoom at our start time, finish setting up your space and answer any last questions. You’re always welcome to turn off your video during the session if preferred.
Next, we'll begin by taking deep breaths, in through your nose and exhaling out your mouth. I may offer a healing mantra at the start for you to repeat if you find your mind is struggling to relax.
Soon you are going to feel like you’re in a deep meditation, so soothing, and pure. Physically, people typically describe the sensations they feel during the session as warmth, tingling, or vibrations. More rarely, some people may sense different colors or soft dreamlike visions. Your thoughts will subtly start to loosen their grip and come and go more easily. Sometimes you won’t be able to think at all-- now doesn’t that sound nice for a change!
I’ll be watching the time and you may also notice when the session is over.
Immediately afterward, you may feel a bit sleepy, quiet, or introspective. Give yourself 10-20 minutes to just relax and embrace this state. Some even like to take a nap after if that’s available. Depending on your preference, we can stay on the call to share what we experienced and answer any questions.
Soon after, you will experience more clarity of mind, focus, a reduction in anxiety, increased motivation, a sense of peace, or even something better.
In terms of how long to expect these benefits, the truth is that it does depend on the person, the length of the treatment, and the situation that’s being healed. The healing benefits could last anywhere from several hours, days, or indefinitely in some cases.
Of course, Reiki sessions with different practitioners will be different. All practitioners have their own style and skills when it comes to their intuition or psychic practices. It’s always a good idea to get an understanding of what to expect before booking a session with a new practitioner and understand if they combine the use of Reiki with other healing modalities.
