How Grounding Strengthens your Root Chakra

Our Root Chakra regulates the flow of energy in the lower half of our bodies. When the Root Chakra is strong and in balance, we can feel emotions of peace, trust, and safety on a regular basis. When it is out of balance, we may experience fear, anxiety, stress, agitation, and physical symptoms in the legs, feet, lower back, hips, and organs in the pelvis.

The Root Chakra also relates to our basic survival needs as human beings; this includes having access to food, shelter, and clothing. Before moving on, please take a moment to express deep gratitude for any privileges you have in this area, as many people on the planet, and likely in your own community do not.

Grounding practices, especially time spent with nature, harmonize the energetic frequencies in the body. This naturally opens the body up to allow for a greater sense of peace and possibly even feelings of safety, but keep in mind that feeling safe in nature is also a privilege. If you need a refresher on other ways to ground, check out the FAQ post  "What is Grounding? and signs you might need it."

Let’s talk about how we can strengthen our Root Chakra by further developing feelings of Trust and Safety.

Trust develops over time, and with patience; it's not a feeling that arrives quickly. Choosing to practice self-care, self-soothing, and grounding when your body calls for it, builds trust in yourself. Bit by bit your actions toward yourself add up, for example, meditating when you’re stressed, asking for help when you’re overwhelmed, saying “no” when you’re not in the mood, and taking a walk outside when you’re anxious. You learn that you can rely on yourself to make decisions that are in your best interest.

Now, let's discuss Safety for a moment. It’s hard to feel safe in the world today, and of course, it is harder for some more than others. Because of this, so many of us, if not most of us, live with an unbalanced Root Chakra (which can lead to some of the unpleasant symptoms discussed earlier).

We have to learn how to find safety within ourselves.

Inner safety develops when you can learn to trust and depend on your ability to weather the storms in life. By responding to your body’s needs with self-care, self-soothing, and grounding practices, you will begin to trust that you can handle hard situations as they arise.

Continue to intentionally incorporate grounding practices in your life. Through this, you will begin to build a sense of trust and safety within yourself while strengthening your Root Chakra.
