What is a Ritual?

A Ritual is any action or set of actions that intentionally brings you into a state of centeredness, cleanses your energy, and assists with connecting to your authentic self. Rituals help cultivate awareness, focus, attention, and introspection. They work to calm the body, mind, emotions, and spirit (energetic body) and align them toward your goals in life.

The difference between a Ritual and a Routine is the intention and goal behind it.

For example, a routine might be waking up and brushing your teeth. The goal of brushing your teeth is perhaps hygiene or smelling good. A Ritual, on the other hand, might be waking up, journaling about a dream or how you’re feeling, meditating for 5 minutes to connect with your inner self, and turning on some Megahertz Music to cleanse your space and mind.

Rituals are used across many cultures and religions for birth, death, marriage, harvesting crop, and eating, to name a few. They are also a practice that you can bring into your own home on a daily basis. Developing a Ritual practice that is right for you may take a little trial and error and will continue to shift and change over time.

Start by considering what you’d like your goal or intention for the Ritual to be.

The 10 most common goals of Ritual practice are the following:

  1. Connecting with the authentic self

  2. Strengthening gut instincts

  3. Grounding or centering

  4. Purifying energy

  5. Manifesting

  6. Setting goals

  7. Envisioning or asking for what the heart desires

  8. Connecting with others

  9. Connecting with unseen energies for guidance, protection, courage, blessing, etc.

  10. Experiencing intimacy

Next, choose a Ritual that you’re drawn to. Keep in mind that a Ritual can actually be developed out of nearly every action, just so long as the goal is clear.

Examples of my favorite Rituals:

New and Full Moon
Waking up and going to sleep
Altar practice
Cacao ceremony
Writing/ Journaling
Opening and closing Reiki sessions

Perform some research on how others create a Ritual around any of these practices. Then consider adding any self-care, self-soothing, or grounding practice (click here for a reminder on Grounding Practice) to make your Ritual more authentically you.

I also recommend lighting a candle during your Ritual practice to represent inspiration, creativity, and magick!

Please reach out about getting started with any of these Rituals. I've started offering Spiritual Development Sessions for those new to their spiritual journey and are looking for support. For more info visit the Offerings Section on my website.
